How to sell AI visibility services to local clients
The short answer
You can sell the work and the measurement of AI visibility, but not the outcome. You do not control what ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini say. Offer a baseline check, fixes to the client's public facts and reviews, and a regular report of what the assistants say. Never promise a mention.

What are AI visibility services?
AI visibility work aims to get a local business named when someone asks an AI assistant for a recommendation, such as "who is a good family dentist in this town?" You may also hear it called GEO, short for generative engine optimization, or LLM SEO. The tasks below are ordinary local SEO tasks: accurate listings, a complete Google profile, real reviews and a clear website.
For the plain-language background your clients can read, send them what AI visibility is and how AI chooses local businesses.
What can I honestly promise a client?
You can promise your effort, your method and your reporting. You cannot promise an outcome, because the assistants are run by other companies and you do not control what they say.
Even Google, which publishes the most about its own results, says there are no secrets that automatically rank a site first. For AI Overviews and AI Mode it says there are no additional requirements and no other special optimizations necessary. That is Google, not ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, but it is a reason to be careful with any claim of a secret method.
| Safe to promise | Do not promise |
|---|---|
| A baseline of what each assistant says today | That the client will be mentioned |
| A fixed list of fixes to the client's public facts, profile and reviews | A position or a rank inside an AI answer |
| A monthly report of what the assistants say, with changes marked | A date by which anything will change |
| Honest notes when an assistant gets the client wrong | That wrong answers will be corrected |
What work can I actually do for a client?
No assistant company publishes what makes it name a business. The steps below are our suggestions for making the public facts about a business correct, consistent and easy to find. Present them to clients as suggestions, not as a published rule.
- Check the basics: name, address, phone and hours match on the Google profile, the website and major directories.
- Complete the Google Business Profile: categories, services, photos and description. See how to rank higher on Google Maps.
- Keep earning real reviews and answer them.
- Make the website say clearly what the business does, where, and for whom.
- Correct wrong facts at the source when you can. If an assistant repeats something false, find where it likely came from.
How do I measure AI visibility for a client?
Ask the assistants the questions a customer would ask, in the client's category and area, and write down who gets named. Do it before you start so you have a baseline, then repeat it on a schedule.
One check is a snapshot. Run a few over time and report the pattern, not a single answer.
Reputant's AI visibility tracker does this for ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. It checks those three assistants only, not Perplexity or Google AI Overviews, so say that in your scope instead of implying full coverage.
- List five to ten questions a local customer might ask, for example "best emergency plumber in [town]".
- Run each question in each assistant you cover and record whether the client is named, who else is, and any wrong facts.
- Save the answers with the date.
- Repeat monthly and mark what changed.
How do I pitch it without overselling?
Lead with the question the client already has: "Do the AI assistants know about us?" Then show their baseline. A client who sees an assistant recommend a competitor, or give an old phone number for them, does not need a pitch.
Position it as an extension of local SEO and keep the scope to work you can show the client.
Pitch wording
We checked what ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini say when someone asks for a [category] in [town]. Here is what they said about you and your competitors. We cannot control what they say. What we can do is fix the facts they draw on, keep your reviews coming and report each month on what changed.
Line for the contract
AI visibility services cover a baseline check, a monthly check of ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, and the fixes listed in the scope. Mentions or recommendations by any AI assistant are outside our control and are not guaranteed.
How should I price AI visibility work?
One option is to fold the monthly check into an existing local SEO retainer and charge a one-time fee for the baseline and the fixes. For the models, see how to price local SEO services.
What do I show the client each month?
Show the questions you asked, the answer each assistant gave this month, and what was different from last month. Add the fixes you made and the next ones planned. Keep Google results alongside. How to prove local SEO results covers the Google side of the report.

What claims should I avoid?
- "We guarantee you will show up in ChatGPT."
- "We know the ranking factors for AI." Do not claim a method you cannot show.
- "Pay us and we will remove wrong information." You can report errors and fix sources, but you cannot force a correction.
- Claims of coverage you do not have, such as every assistant or every AI search feature.
