How to respond to positive reviews (30 examples)
The short answer
Thank the person by name, mention one detail from their review, and keep it to two or three sentences. Do not paste the same line into every reply. Skip any promise, offer or private detail. A short reply that sounds like you beats a long one that sounds like a template.

Do I really need to reply to five-star reviews?
Yes, and sooner than you might think. In BrightLocal's 2026 Local Consumer Review Survey, 89% of consumers said they expect a business owner to reply to reviews, and 19% expect the reply the same day they post it.
Positive reviews do the selling for you. A reply shows the next reader that a real person is behind the business. It also tells the reviewer they were noticed, which is a good reason for them to come back. If you want more of these reviews to reply to, see how to get more Google reviews.
What makes a thank-you reply sound human?
Thirty replies in a row can sound like a machine wrote them. These rules keep yours from doing that.
- Use the reviewer's first name, once.
- Echo one real detail from the review: the dish, the technician, the fix.
- Change the opening. If every reply starts with "Thank you so much for the kind words," readers notice.
- Match the length to the review. A one-line review gets a one-line reply.
- Do not promise discounts, specials or next-visit perks. Do not ask for a favor in the reply.
- Do not confirm what a customer bought or received if the business is a clinic, dental office or law firm. See how to respond to negative reviews for the privacy rules, which apply here too.
What are good short replies?
For a review that says little, say little. Five different shapes you can borrow.
Short 1
Thanks, [Name]. See you next time.
Short 2
Glad it went well, [Name]. We appreciate you taking the time to write.
Short 3
That made our day. Thank you, [Name].
Short 4
[Name], thank you. Come by whenever you are in the neighborhood.
Short 5
Much appreciated. The team will be happy to read this.
How do I reply when they name a person or a detail?
Pass the compliment on and use their detail back. These replies show you read the review.
Specific 1: names a staff member
Thank you, [Name]. I will make sure Priya sees this. She asked for the hard job that morning and it shows.
Specific 2: praises the result
A new roof is not a small decision, [Name], so thank you for trusting us with it. Enjoy the quiet the next time it rains.
Specific 3: praises speed
Same-day is what we aim for, and it is good to hear it worked for you, [Name]. Thanks for being so easy to work with.
Specific 4: praises honesty
[Name], we would rather tell you what you do not need than sell it to you. Thank you for noticing, and for the trust.
Specific 5: mentions the product
The sourdough does well in the first hour, so you caught it at its best. Thank you, [Name], and see you Saturday.
What do I say to a repeat customer?
Do not thank a regular like a stranger. A little familiarity goes a long way.
Repeat 1: years of visits
Eight years already, [Name]? Thank you for sticking with us. We would be a different shop without you.
Repeat 2: came back after a gap
Good to see you again, [Name]. It was great catching up, and thank you for coming back.
Repeat 3: third review
You have written for us before, [Name], and we are grateful every time. Thank you for being the kind of customer we hope for.
Repeat 4: family has been coming
Three generations of your family at the counter, [Name]. That means more to us than a star rating, though we will take both. Thank you.
How do I answer someone who sent a friend?
Thank them for the recommendation, which is worth more than the review itself.
Referral 1: brought a friend
Thank you for sending your sister our way, [Name]. We will take good care of her too.
Referral 2: recommended to neighbors
Word of mouth is how most of our work happens, [Name], so thank you for telling the street about us.
Referral 3: found us through someone
We are glad your coworker pointed you to us, [Name]. Please pass on our thanks to them as well.
What about a five-star rating with no words?
You have nothing to echo, so keep it light and do not ask for more.
No text 1
Thanks for the five stars, [Name]. We appreciate it.
No text 2
A quiet five stars is still a good day for us. Thank you, [Name].
No text 3
Thank you for rating us. Let us know if there is ever anything we can do better.
How do I reply to a long, detailed review?
Do not write an essay back. Pick two things they said and respond to those.
Long 1: describes a whole project
Thank you for walking us through it, [Name]. The delay on the tile order was a headache, and we are glad the bathroom turned out the way you pictured. We will pass your note to the crew.
Long 2: compares to a past provider
We know how hard it is to change providers after a bad experience, [Name], so your trust means a lot. Thank you for giving us a chance and for explaining what mattered to you.
Long 3: describes a stressful situation
That sounded like a rough week, [Name], and we are glad we could take one thing off your list. Thank you for writing it all down. It helps the next person who finds us in the same spot.
And a first-time customer?
Welcome them without gushing.
First time 1
Welcome, [Name]. We are glad we were your first stop. Come back anytime.
First time 2
Thanks for trying us for the first time, [Name]. If anything is ever not right, ask for me by name.
What if the customer was having a rough time?
Be warm and brief. Do not repeat what they went through.
Hard day 1: emergency visit
We are glad we could be there when you needed us, [Name]. Wishing you a calm week.
Hard day 2: stressful move or event
It was a privilege to be part of a big day, [Name]. Thank you for letting us help.
How do I reply to a review with a photo or a story?
Mention the photo. People can tell when you have looked at it.
Photo 1: before and after
That before and after picture is better than anything we could post ourselves, [Name]. Thank you for sharing it.
Photo 2: a pet in the picture
Please tell Biscuit that his portrait is going on our wall. Thank you, [Name].
Photo 3: kids in the picture
Those smiles say it all. Thank you for coming in, [Name], and for taking the time to write.

How do I keep up with replies every week?
Set a fixed time, such as ten minutes on Monday morning. Answer the oldest unanswered review first. If you are slow to reply, the reviewer will not hold it against you, but readers do see the date gap.
Reputant's AI-drafted replies are written for you to approve or edit, never sent on their own. Replies post to Google, and to Facebook as new replies only. For more on asking for reviews in the first place, see review request templates and the Google review QR code guide.
